The book is devoted to the history and evolution of warships such as ‘sloop’ and ‘frigate’, starting from the era of sailing ships. She describes how frigates, smaller than battleships and with a single continuous deck of guns, performed functions similar to modern cruisers, while slupes, originally single-masted, grew over time and occupied an intermediate position between corvettes and frigates.
The book also examines the use of magnifying glasses during the First and Second World Wars. In particular, it describes how the Flower and River classes were designed to perform various tasks, such as minesweeping and convoy protection, in the face of a shortage of destroyers. It is emphasized that over time, the requirements for these ships have changed, which has led to their renaming and classification changes, reflecting changes in tactics and strategy of naval operations. The book focuses on the importance of these vessels in the context of the navy and their role in protecting trade routes and performing combat missions.
