The Guidelines for Wind-Assisted Propulsion Systems for Ships apply to the ships classed with NIPPON KAIJI KYOKAI (hereinafter referred to as “the Society”)which are equipped with wind-assisted propulsion systems (WAPS) as an auxiliary to the main propulsion system of the ship and for which the application for the affixation of the notation to the classification characters is made the Guidelines address the requirements related to the following items:(1) Design, testing and inspection of WAPS(2) Design, testing and inspection of base ships affected by the installation of WAPS the Guidelines will be of help with the development of wind power utilization technology in the marine field.
