These 36 charts provide a comprehensive view of the hourly speed and direction of the major tidal currents of the Bay of Fundy and the Gulf of Maine, including Georges Bank. The user can obtain the speed and direction of currents in any part of the above areas at any time in the tidal cycle using the forecasts for St John on the Atlantic Coast and the Bay of Fundy Tide and Current Tables, Volume One, in conjunction with these charts.
Source - The source of the current information in these charts is the hydrodynamic mathematical model of the Bay of Fundy and Gulf of Maine developed by Dr D. A. Greenberg of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. This model, developed in 1974 and subsequently improved, accurately reproduces the pattern of tidal currents throughout the area. The tidal regime of the Bay of Fundy and Gulf of Maine is essentially lunar semidiurnal in nature, and therefore these currents, which are the currents of the major semidiurnal component, are representative of the actual flow.
