SIGTTO continues to actively encourage continuous improvement to reduce the environmental impact of liquefied gas shipping. This document is part of a series of documents specific to environmental protection matters which are aligned with, and support, the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO’s) environmental goals1 on the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Methane is a GHG and it is vital that robust systems are in place to minimise the environmental impact of the transportation of LNG.2 The main purpose of this document is to recommend that a structured system is set up to identify, detect, measure and quantify fugitive emissions3 of methane from LNG carriers.
