SSE 8 took place 28 February - 4 March 2022 as a virtual meeting. This briefing summarises the discussions and outcomes which are significant to Lloyd’s Register’s work with our customers.
Lloyd’s Register contributed to the work in the following groups:
Life-saving appliances
Fire protection
Onboard lifting appliances and anchor handling winches
Experts Group on the revision of the Code of Safety for Diving Systems
It should be noted that in order to progress the work of the sub-committee in the limited time available, a number of documents were considered by correspondence prior to the meeting. SSE 8 considered the relevant actions proposed with some documents referred directly to the appropriate working group without discussion in plenary. The outcomes of the discussions are included under the relevant agenda item. These include documents submitted under:
Agenda item 2: Decisions of other IMO bodies.
Agenda Item 10: Development of amendments to SOLAS chapter II-2 and the Fire Safety Systems Code (FSS Code) concerning detection and control of fires in cargo holds and on the cargo deck of containerships.
Agenda item 14: Revision of the Code of Safety for Diving Systems (resolution A.831(19)) and the Guidelines and specifications for hyperbaric evacuation systems.
Agenda item 19: Review of the 2014 Standard specification for shipboard incinerators (resolution MEPC.244(66)) on fire protection requirements for incinerators and waste stowage spaces.
Agenda item 18: Any other business (Life Saving Appliances).
