This is the fifth edition of the series of books having the prime title of “Engine Testing.”
It is acknowledged by the authors that, due to personal requirements and the availability of a downloadable, non-paper version, many users will not read the whole book. Therefore some readers will notice occasional repetition of critical advice given in more than one chapter; in order to minimize this, users will find that cross-referencing used where appropriate.
Starting in 1995, the volumes have tracked the evolution of the technologies incorporated in both automotive power trains, internal combustion engines (ICE) their test facilities, and the legislation under which they are allowed to operate around the world.
This fifth edition is written at a time of industrial and social upheaval as a pandemic threatens to change the social order while disturbing global efforts to achieve viable mass of transport systems and vehicles producing “zero” (harmful) emissions. All this encourages the rapid evolution of existing power train technologies and national infrastructure.
