The ICC’s renowned Sailing Directions have been relied upon by cruising yachtsmen and women for over eighty years. This book is a complement to the Directions, an overview of the coast and its harbours, passages, headlands, history, wildlife, geology, buildings and ancient monuments, economy, culture and trivia. Over 600 photographs illustrate the stunningly beautiful scenery of Ireland as seen from a cruising sailor’s point of view.
Mike Balmforth has been a member of the ICC for almost 50 years, and in that time has sailed, raced, and cruised extensively on the coasts of his native Ireland, Scotland, the Baltic and NW Europe. During a career entirely connected with the world of boating, he has worked for Yachting Monthly, and been Editor of the CCC Journal, The Yachtsman's Almanac, and the Yachting Monthly Cruising Companion series of guides. He lives in western Scotland.
Norman Kean learned to sail on the Firth of Clyde in his native Scotland, and first came to live in Ireland in 1980. He has explored almost every one of 400 harbours and anchorages in Ireland, and has sailed in Scotland, France, the Faroes and the United States. He arrived in west Cork under sail from Cape May, New Jersey, in 2001, and never left. He writes regularly for Yachting Monthly and has been Editor of the ICC Sailing Directions since 2005.
