The platform for the establishment of the e-Navigation concept is identification of user needs, followed by international agreement of implementation of several tasks to capture those needs. Interaction between technological systems and the human element are becoming more complex and require a better understanding of how to enhance safety, security, and efficiency by harmonization of marine navigation systems and equipment and supporting shore services. This is the core of e-Navigation and when implemented it will improve the maritime environment, not just for the benefit and safety of all mariners, but for the global community and planet as a whole.
