The series of Yachtsman's Pilots of which this is one part sets out to provide useful information for visitors to the west coast of Scotland as clearly as possible. It is not trying to 'sell' the West Coast; anyone reading it is probably already considering sailing there. The upper limit of size for which it caters is a draught of 2 metres, but there is also information specifically for shoal-draught boats -centreboarders, trailer-sailers, twin-keel boats and multihulls, and of course motor-cruisers, who tend to be forgotten by writers of 'sailing directions' who usually seem to own deep-keeled sailing boats.
