The royal navy in South Africa 1900-2000

Although this book initially set out to be a pictorial history of the Royal Navy in Simon's Town during the twentieth century, photographs of ships in coastal waters and other South African ports have been included to provide a comprehensive picture of RN activities around "the coast 5f South Africa. Simon's Town is no longer an RN base but strong links between the British and South African Navies remain. As I compose this note, Glasgow and Black Rover are alongside in the outer basin and St George's Street is alive with British matelots taking full advantage of the Rand/Pound exchange rate which is very much in their favour.
The compilation of this book was made possible by a number of people who, over a period of a hundred years, were sufficiently interested in their surroundings to record images of them on sensitised glass plates or film.
